The Archos 101 loses sorely to the Galaxy Tab, but not because of the specs. They are very closely related on specs and even have the same processor, but that doesn’t matter if there is no Android Market support. That is right, the Archos 101 does not have access to the Market, but instead has a 3rd party market called Apps Lib. Sure it is better than nothing and you can always side-load, but this is nearly a deal-breaker. For the sub $300 price though it isn’t too bad of a device. If you aren’t poor like me, then definitely go for the Tab. For more Archos coverage be sure to check out my post on TabWar.com.

Do you agree that the Archos 101 blows?

You haven’t mentioned the Archos has a dedicated GPU and support for opengl. There is also the multi-codec chips Archos us well known for, decoding a video isn’t software based and you can play pretty much any video around.
The Android market doesn’t come as standard but can be added very easily. However, both devices will suffer from the same incompatibles with most apps as max res for an app is 800×600. Archos will approve apps for the appslib if the appslib is compatible. App developers can easily submit to appslib and are normally happy to.

I have to second that. Specs wise they are the same but the A101 has better features than the ipad/galaxy. hdmi and usb is a huge plus. built quality is not bad, if u dont like it get a leather case, if screen is too glary, get a anti glare screen protector they work great. The A101 is a great deal and super price. and even the extra 15 bucks for the codecs isnt bad, it plays just about anything.

What a bias and incorrect article… total waste of time as the review doesn’t even have the correct features. Sure I know its a bit outdated but all of the standard specs on the Archos are completly wrong and missing. Next time, wait for the real specs to be published, b.c reviewing on predictions are a waste of everyone’s time:
See the link below for the real specs, its actually a decent product:
