Galaxy Tab Case Giveaway – Waterfield Designs Tablet Ultimate SleeveCase

Do you like free stuff? If not, then stop reading. For everybody else we are giving away a practically new Waterfield Designs Tablet Ultimate SleeveCase away, a $54 value. I say practically new because it was used for about a week for reviewing purposes.

Review

Upon first blush you can tell that WaterField Designs used top notch materials in the case. The case I am reviewing had leather trimming, a $5 add-on, which looks and feels great. My girlfriend actually commented on how soft it felt.

The case definitely has a noticeable bulk though. I had my doubts that it would fit in my laptop bag without making a bulge, but was happily disproven. The reason for the heft is for the protection it offers. It is cushioned by neoprene and wrapped in a nearly indestructible nylon shell. I was actually comfortable enough with the padding to drop the case with my precious Galaxy Tab in it. Of course it came out without a scratch.

A Few Months Later – List of Apps That Don’t Scale up to the Galaxy Tab’s Resolution UPDATE – Sadness

On the first day of 2011 I started to construct a list of all the apps that did not scale up properly to the Galaxy Tab’s resolution. I asked for your help and boy did I get it! Now a few months later we take another look at the list.

Back then it seemed like half of the apps in the Android Market were not capable of scaling up and it just looked terrible. Sure you could use Spare Parts to force it, but that just caused problems. I have gone back and checked every application on that list and found that nearly all of them scale up perfectly.

The ones that scaled up flawlessly have been crossed out. Most of the others have at least made improvements to their app for higher resolution screens, but it still looks slightly wonky on the Tab’s display.

I for one am psyched that developers have made such strides in these short months. If you have any other applications to add to the list, then please leave a comment on the list’s page.

Update: RLJSlick pointed out that one of the apps actually still wasn’t working. I went inquiring and installed spare parts. I got it back to how it should be, with it not scaling properly. Then I went and tested each app and most of them still do not scale all the way. Now I have to figure out why my Tab was scaling them even without Spare Parts installed. Maybe a Sprint OTA Update installed something to force full screen. Have any other Sprint Tab owners noticed that the apps on the list do take up the whole screen? Thanks.

Samsung Hires Actors for Samsung Mobile Unpacked Episode at CTIA?

Last week at CTIA when Samsung announced the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9, Samsung had a video testimony of three people about what they thought about the Galaxy Tab. One used the original 7 inch, the next a 10.1 Tab, and finally the last used the brand new 8.9. All of them had nothing but good things to say about the tablets, which is not that surprising, but how they conveyed the message seemed phony.

Blogger, Harry McCracken, did a little research on the real people giving these testimonies:

I was curious to learn more about them. So I Googled around and couldn’t find any references to a travel-writing Joan Hess (one with, as she said, a following on Twitter) or a real-estate CEO Joseph Kolinski.

I did notice, however, that freelance travel writer Joan Hess bears a striking resemblance to New York actress Joan Hess:

And that real estate CEO Joseph Kolinski could be New York actor Joseph Kolinksi’s twin brother:

Filmmaker Karl Shefelman, on the other hand, looks a lot like… filmmaker Karl Shefelman. Who works for a New York production company. One that’s done work for Samsung.

So it looks like Samsung did hire actors and give them a script instead of actually getting candid remarks of the Tabs. Not too big of a deal in my opinion though.

Original Galaxy Tab 10.1 is still coming, called Galaxy Tab 10.1V

When Samsung announced the first Galaxy Tab 10.1 back at MWC, a lot of us fell in love with the design and specs of the slate. Last week at CTIA, Samsung announced a refresh of the design of the 10.1 before the original was even released! Do not fear though, because the original will still see the light of day.

It has been renamed Galaxy Tab 10.1V. The V in the name stands for Vodafone. They were very proud of the fact that they would be the first to have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and now they are going to have the exclusive rights to the Galaxy Tab 10.1V. So if you live in the UK (and possibly other areas) you will be able to get the Galaxy Tab 10.1V without having to import it.

Everybody else in the world will have to go through the trouble have importing it or buying it from an auction on eBay. The price will skyrocket and you will feel sad. That is why I am sticking with the newer version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Also United Kingdom residents, it is unknown if Samsung plans to release the newer model or just the original. My guess is that they will sell the newer one once they run out of the 10.1V’s stock.

Which of they two 10.1 inch Tabs do you prefer?
