Galaxy Tab Browser Speed Tests, Which will Win? UPDATE – xScope and Opera Scores

No doubt, you have noticed that the default web browser on the Galaxy Tab is sluggish. What you may not know is that you have many alternative options. Today we are bringing you a speed test comparison of five different browsers – Default Browser, Dolphin Browser HD, Miren Browser, Mozilla Firefox Web Browser, and Skyfire Web Browser 3.0.

All of the browsers are updated to their latest version as of March 17, 2011.

The tests were preformed on the same Wi-Fi network, during the same time of day, with each respective browser being the only application, and only having one tab open. The Wi-Fi network they were tested on gets about 12 Mbps down. Each web page was loaded once before the tests started. Then the page was refreshed three times and the time it took to load the page completely was recorded in seconds and then averaged.

As you can see in the chart above, Miren Browser won the overall speed test by just a fraction of a second over Skyfire Web Browser 3.0. Update – Opera Mobile Web Browser takes the lead.

  1. Opera Mobile Web Browser – 9.3 seconds
  2. Miren Browser – 10.6 seconds
  3. Skyfire Web Browser 3.0 – 10.8 seconds
  4. Mozilla Firefox Web Browser – 11.2 seconds
  5. Dolphin Browser HD – 13.9 seconds
  6. Default Browser – 15.5 seconds
  7. xScope Browser – Web & File – 17.5 seconds

These results have led me to switch from Dolphin Browser HD to the faster Miren Browser.

There are of course many other points that affect browser choice such as features, smoothness, and interface. They will be addressed in future articles, so stay tuned!

Completely forgot about xScope. Would you still like me to test it and add the numbers in?

Was testing Opera Mobile, but it failed to load Engadget’s full site.

Updated for Opera Mobile 11. Wow it is fast and smooth!

Yes please test xscope if you can… Feels faster than Miren on my tab.

I tested xScope load times and they were surprisingly slow, but I did do my due diligence.

I retested some of the other browsers and they received load times similar to their previous scores a few days ago. Then I rebooted the Tab and retested xScope and got the same slow load times.

xScope works for you, so I say keep using it!

I cant get any browser to load at minute? Is there a general browsing issue?

I’m in Ireland and have had no issue with email or facebook, just browsing on several browsers. Similar problem for my friend on a different network but also in Ireland.

Opera worked for awhile but then it too stopped all of a sudden and for no reason.

Wow, I’m shocked! Thanks for the update. : )

There is also a new browser called Maxthon Browser. Seems to be quite fast as well. And introduces interestig direct gesture concept.
