New 7-Inch Galaxy Tab Coming, Everybody Rejoice!

Whoa! It looks like some details have surfaced on the unannounced successor of the Original Galaxy Tab 7. When the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was announced, there was a huge uproar because it did not have a 7-inch display. The advantage of the smaller screen size is you can hold it easily in one hand and even put it in your back pocket.

It will be powered by the same 1.2 GHz dual-core Exynos processor found in the Galaxy S II. Also it will have twice the RAM found in the original Galaxy Tab which comes to 1 GB total. But it only has 2 GB of ROM but it has a micro SD slot. That rules! The screen is 7 inches and has a 1024 x 600 resolution. It will be capable of phone calls, video calls, and text messages.

There is a downside, but it is not as bad as you might think. The operating system powering the Galaxy Tab is Gingerbread 2.3.4 instead of Honeycomb. The reason for this is because Google has been secretly denying 7 inch tablets Honeycomb because Honeycomb does not look good in portrait mode (which is how one would use a 7 inch tablet usually). The tablet is due out this fall, the same time Ice Cream Sandwich which brings together phone and tablet operating systems. Hopefully they will have fixed the portrait problem and the Galaxy Tab 2 will get the Ice Cream Sandwich update soon after launch.

  • Exynos 1.2 GHz dual-core processor
  • 1GB RAM, 2GB ROM
  • Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread w/ TouchWiz 4.0
  • 16GB of internal memory
  • Micro SD slot
  • Tab proprietary connector with USB Host capabilities (via adapter)
  • 7 inch WSVGA IPS display
  • Ability to call, video call and send SMS messages

There are five (5), areas that would make the galaxy tab a business persons dream:

    1. Increase screen size to 7.5 to 8.5, a useable screen the size of a stenio pad would be ideal. Anything above 8.5 and you are moving away from portability.

    2. The ablity to write free hand notes with any object that be handy. That would really booster this device with managers, educators or anyone in a detailed origintated industry.

    3. It goes with saying, it has to be guick and absolutly must be able to multi-task, without locking up or slowing down!!!!!!!

    4. The tab should be fully compatable with ALL of the office suite programs, especially ms outlook!

    5. A stable browser that supports full internet functionality and two way face to face communication.

    6. Muli-media capabilities, at least one high capacity USB port and two high speed /high capacity card readers (standard size SD and 32gig mini SD slot).

    7. Lastly the capacity to run a wireless or bluetooth presentation or print from your tab.

All of these capabilities are off the self technologies today. So I don’t understand why there’s such a brake with reallity among the prodution executives at Samsung, and the other manufacturer of these devices?

I have a 7″ galaxy tab, great concept, but piss poor execution and development before going to market with the idea. They need to realize being first out to market doesn’t always score a home run. Rather comibg to the market with the best product one that superior to that of the competion, will give you that coveted corner of market share.

Ipad was first, now you’ve got to be smarter, faster, move capable and economical than everyone else, or just have a seat and watch the show.

    Sincerely

    A galaxy tab owner

Are there any apps where you can handwrite notes on the Galaxy tab. In conferences, I am envious of those with IPADs
