Google Catalogs is how Galaxy Tab owners get their shopping done

Leave it to Google to make even the most mundane tasks into intuitive and enjoyable experiences. This time they’ve tackled the chore of holiday shopping and browsing by releasing Google Catalogs, a tablet only app that lets users browse catalogs from dozens of retailers across the county.

Navigation in Google Catalogs is pleasant and smooth. Simply select a catalog that interests you, and flip through it with a smooth page turning gesture. One of the app’s greatest strengths is its rendering speed, pages load quickly, meaning you will spend more time reading and less time waiting for blurry pages to load. You can pinch to zoom to read smaller sections of text, and you can jump to anywhere in the catalog via a navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. While the app is very smooth and easy to use, the library of catalogs could be improved. It feels as if there isn’t quite enough variety here. Then again, it all depends on who you’re shopping for.

All in all, the entire experience makes browsing for gifts actually enjoyable, which is a testament to how well the app is designed. Go grab Google Catalogs and pick yourself out something nice, you earned it.
