Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1)

Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) announced

Not too long ago Samsung announced what they are calling the Galaxy Tab 2. The Galaxy Tab 2 was essentially the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus with phone functionality. Likewise, the Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) is the basically the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with phone capabilities.

A 10.1 inch phone that can act like a phone? You heard me right. At least according to the press photo they released. The photo had a phone icon on the screen which is no present on any of their tablets that can not make phone calls. At seven inches, a phone is not completely unreasonable. At over ten inches, it is hard to imagine anybody using it as a phone. Sure you could use a Bluetooth headset to keep yourself from looking completely ridiculous, but carrying it around everywhere you go could become a pain.

The design looks more like the Galaxy Tab 10.1N than the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with the speakers in the front rather than the sides. The tablet will ship with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) in the United Kingdom in March and globally after that.

It’s really annoying when you’ve got a tablet that does 3G but doesn’t have phone capability – why? the OS supports it, you’ve already got a 3G connection… even if you don’t ACTUALLY use it, why not have it?

My original Galaxy Tab has phone capability, and I’m not sure I’ve ever used it, but it might come in handy some time.Maybe this is another US perspective thing? I can easily have a cheap 3G SIM that does data and calls and have that as a second SIM to my main phone – I could even just use it at home if I wanted to – after all, how many people actually just use their 10″ tablets at home anyway?

Tab2…. yeah right. Same as last year + Sd card, which should have been added already. I hope there will be something impressive after Ipad3 launch.

Does this kill my hope to use my Galaxy Tab 10.1 as a phone with bluetooth headset if it get ICS?
It would be a shame on Samsung!
