We have had unofficial releases of CyanogenMod 9 builds for months on the Galaxy Tab 10.1, but today we get our first ROM from an official channel. Steve Kondik, CyanogenMod founder who now works for Samsung, released the pre-alpha version of CM9 for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 today via a post on Google+. You can download the files here.

The installation is quite simple. Just flash the recovery image in fastboot and then the .zip file.

I am not sure what the differences are, or if there are in fact any, between the CM9 ROMs that have been on XDA for months and this release. If you notice any differences let us know in the comments!

Samsung might have just outed their announcement at Mobile World Congress today by mistake. Their website listed it in their Guide to Samsung Developer Day at MWC 2012. Since then, Samsung has taken down the webpage with this on it.

So what would a Galaxy Note 10.1 be like? Well it might just be another variant of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, or it could be a powerful new device to usher in the 3rd generation of Galaxy Tabs. Either way, the tablet will probably come with the S-Pen. The S-Pen is a pressure sensitive stylus that currently is only available for the Galaxy Note. A stylus on a larger screen could prove to be very useful for taking notes or sketching pictures.

We will find out more about this during Mobile World Congress later this month. What do you think about the idea of a Galaxy Note 10.1?

The Galaxy Tab line of 7.0 inch tablets is now three strong. The original Galaxy Tab was launched in 2010 and was the first Android tablet to take seriously because it had access to the Android Market unlike other Android tablets. It launched with Android 2.2 and was later upgraded to Android 2.3. The second 7.0 inch tablet is called the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. It launched in late 2011 with Honeycomb. Last there is the Galaxy Tab 2 coming in March 2012 with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It will likely be the first Android 4.0 tablet by Samsung unless they provide a software update to another tablet in their lineup before next march.

You might expect the specs of these devices to be better with each iteration but that is not the case. While there are some significant differences between the original Galaxy Tab and the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, there is hardly any difference between the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and Galaxy Tab 2.
I certainly was not expecting a new Galaxy Tab to be announced this morning and in a way I feel like a new one wasn’t. Samsung just announced that it will be releasing the Galaxy Tab 2 in Europe. The Galaxy Tab 2 is essentially the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus with a 1 GHz dual core processor instead of the of 1.2 GHz processor found in the 7.0 Plus. <del datetime="2012-02-17T22:17:50+00:00">The battery capacity is also a bit lower in the Galaxy Tab 2 at 4,000 mAh compared to 4,100 mAh.</del> It has the same 4,000 mAh battery found in the 7.0 Plus.

The name Galaxy Tab 2 is certainly fitting for this device since it is very much the sequel to the original Galaxy Tab. A feature that I have not noticed on any of the other Galaxy Tabs since the first one is the ability to use it as a phone. The Galaxy Tab 2 can be used as a phone! Just connect a Bluetooth headset to it and you are good to go.

The most interesting thing about the Galaxy Tab 2 is the fact that it will come with a skinned version of Android 4.0 with TouchWiz on top. This ROM can likely be ported to other devices like the Galaxy Tab 10.1, 8.9, 7.7, or 7.0 Plus.

It will be launching in the UK in March followed by Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark. The device costs around $420 to $450 USD for the Wi-Fi model and $520 to $550 for the 3G model.

The specs are a bit stale in the world of quad-core tablets brought on by the Transformer Prime. Personally, I am not very excited about this tablet and am much looking forward to the Galaxy Tab 3 that should be announced soon.

Hello everybody, today we have the Logitech Tablet Keyboard made for Android.

If you have a Galaxy Tab, you may be wondering, where can I get a keyboard for it? Maybe you’re considering purchasing it but the Tab’s lack of a physical keyboard is the one deal breaker for you. If either of these describe you, this may be the gadget you need.

The Logitech Tablet Keyboard For Android 3.0+ is a Bluetooth-enabled keyboard, meaning you don’t have to physically connect it to your tablet for it to work. This Android keyboard from Logitech comes with its very own case as well. The case folds over the keyboard and uses magnets to keep itself closed, so your keyboard never slides out when on the go, and you don’t have to worry about broken buttons or scratching.

The case also unfolds and can double as a stand for your tablet. When used as a stand, it’s very sturdy. Although it is plastic, it stays put and doesn’t slide, even when your Tab is in portrait mode. You can also adjust the angle of the tablet as it’s on the stand. You have two options for the angle of the stand, ranging from approximately 45 to 80 degrees.

The keyboard is very nice. It does not have a number pad, which may or may not be a problem for you. Personally, I don’t miss it. The keys are nicely spread out and not too close together. When compared to the keyboard of a Toshiba Satellite C655 laptop, it is actually a little bit wider (not including NumPad). The keyboard is very light in the hands, so there’s no problem carrying it around and it sits comfortably on my lap.

Now on to the keys. We have Play, Pause, and volume controls, which can be great for listening to music, or if you’re watching a movie, you can use your keyboard as a remote, using the Skip, Rewind and Play/Pause keys. It makes a pretty good remote since it has about a 30-foot range. There are also shortcuts to Mail, Browser, and Calendar, as well as Search, Home, Menu, and Back buttons. I wish there was an App Switcher button instead of the Menu key since it is being discontinued in future versions of Android. Besides a few extra keys, the layout is the same as any other computer or laptop keyboard. The keys are the same material as my laptop’s, with the nice grip-feel texture on the top.

A few final notes: the keyboard does require AAA batteries, which I consider a slight inconvenience compared to rechargeable batteries. On the bright side the battery has yet to die on me and I do not expect it to for quite some time. The foldable case is made of plastic, but has a nice felt inside. The keyboard is very thin, lightweight, and has multiple grips on the bottom so it doesn’t go anywhere. It also has an On/Off button and remembers where to connect when turned on.

Despite a few drawbacks, this is a solid keyboard. I picked it up on Sunday, and I absolutely love it. I definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a tablet keyboard. You can buy the Logitech Tablet Keyboard For Android 3.0+ in stores as well as online. The price of the keyboard is a bit steep at $59.99 USD, but cheaper on Amazon currently.

Rating: 9/10

I have covered the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi and Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G version of this ROM. Now it is time to inform everybody of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 version.

There are two versions of this ROM, one for the 3G model and one for the Wi-Fi model. Make sure that you download and flash the correct one. The latest versions of this were compiled earlier this month on February 3rd.

The bugs are similar to the ones prevalent on the Galaxy Tab 10.1: camera is broken, screen goes black before orientation change, and other various bugs. Battery stats do work on this build according to the post on XDA.

Want a taste of CM9 and Ice Cream Sandwich before either of them officially come to the Galaxy Tab 8.9? Download and install the ROM from the source link below.
