News Republic is a powerful news reader that’s easy on the eyes

News Republic offers a truly new and refreshing take on news reader apps. With a focus on article discovery and topic organization, users can simply enter a personal interest and find hundreds of articles on the topic, many from websites they’ve never visited.
News Republic is intended to be an all in one stop for online news by pulling articles from thousands of different websites and then organizing them by topic. Users create their own personal categories based on what interests them, and News Republic fills those categories with new article from relevant websites. One of News Republic’s finer traits is navigation, with a slick two panel design that makes browsing your custom news channels a breeze. Overall the app works quite well, with the occasional hiccup due to unreliable connections or broken links, but these are few and far between. There’s something to be said about an app that delivers thousands of relevant articles based on a topic of your choosing, and is why News Republic is my go to news reader for the Galaxy Tab.

App Of The Week – ASTRO

The app we have showcased today is called ASTRO.
Astro is a file management application on the Android market, offered for un-rooted users, as well as rooted users. This application has a lot to offer! For a file management app, this is my favorite, because it also support Honeycomb 3.1!! It is an easily usable app with a beautiful interface.

Why should I buy the Galaxy Tab 10.1?

This is something we all ask ourselves time to time when a new device comes out in the market.
Of course, we all want the top-of-the-line product. So we have a right to ask ourselves that!
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a very lightweight tablet (lighter than the iPad 2) and a larger tablet as well, coming around at .33” in Thinness (Compared to the iPad 2,which is .34”), and has a 10.1” screen, Hence the name, with a 1280×800 LCD Resolution.. It weighs in at 565g, (26 grams LESS than the iPad 2). This tablet measures 256.7x 175.3 8.6 mm in size. It’s very sleek looking with a choice of a white back or a metallic gray on the back. It offers the same 3.5mm Headphone jack as most other devices.

Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus Wi-Fi release date announced

The sequel to the Galaxy Tab, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, has a release date now for the United States – November 13th. It will only come in the 16 GB variety at first for $399. It is sad that it is no Galaxy Tab 7.7, but the main difference between the two devices is that the 7.0 Plus has a 1024 x 600 resolution and the 7.7 has a 1280 x 800 resolution on Super AMOLED Plus.

Widgets for your Honeycomb powered desktop

Widgets are and always have been a marquee feature of Android. One of the benefits of having a tablet sized screen is access to widgets that can provide more information than those found on smart phones. If you’re the kind of person who’s on their tablet more than a traditional computer, widgets can help you access information faster.
Recently, I’ve come across two useful and aesthetically pleasing Honeycomb widgets that are sure to help organize your mobile desktop.

Will we see Ice Cream Sandwich on the Galaxy Tab 10.1?

Ice Cream Sandwich is going to be revealed with the Nexus Prime on October 19th. The Nexus Prime is rumored to be Samsung built, meaning that the Samsung Mobile team has had plenty of hands on time with the Ice Cream Sandwich code. I am confident that we will see an official update from Samsung with ICS on-board, but it will not be any time soon.
Devices usually get one to two big software updates from manufactures. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has received one, Touchwiz UX, but it was not an update to Android core so I do not suspect it will count. It was the software that Samsung had hoped to launch with day one. Samsung has yet to release an update to Honeycomb 3.2, from 3.1, but that is because 3.2 mainly brings support for smaller screen sizes.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 banned from Australia

I swear by the time all these lawsuits between Apple and Samsung in regards to the Galaxy Tab 10.1, the third generation of Galaxy Tabs will be out.
The latest news is the Australian Federal Court has put a ban on the 10.1 making it illegal to sell in the country. Samsung plans to keep fighting all of these lawsuits, but might be forced to slightly change the design of the 10.1 as to not infringe on Apple.
