Official Galaxy Tab Stylus Available

In case you have not noticed you can not use a classic stylus on the Galaxy Tab or other capacitive touch screen devices. There are tons of other capacitive styluses on the market but first party accessories usually work and look better.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 (GT-P7510) Visits the FCC

Samsung sent the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in for FCC certification. It is always good to make sure that devices will not spontaneously explode before putting them on store shelves.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi-Only will be available June 8th in 16GB and 32GB fashions for $499 and $599 respectively.

Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab has a Different Processor and GPU

On the outside the cheaper Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab seems to be exactly the same as the original Galaxy Tab sans the 3G radios, but that is not the case. For some reason Samsung chose not to include their 1 GHz Hummingbird processor. When the Galaxy Tab first came out, the price of the processor was estimated at around $8. Hardware prices always go down as time goes by, so it could easily cost around $5 or $6 by now. Even if the weaker chipset Samsung included in the Wi-Fi Tab was free and the Hummingbird chip cost $8, it is unacceptable for Samsung to choose to cripple the device for $8 more profit.
The processor is still a 1 GHz A8 Cortex CPU, but the GPU is where the differences are found. The original Galaxy Tab had a PowerVR SGX 540 GPU, but the Wi-Fi variant only has a PowerVR SGX 530. A real world example of how this will impact performance is the original could playback 1080p video, but the Wi-Fi Tab maxes out at 720p.

Gingerbread Spotted on Galaxy Tab in Taiwan
This picture comes directly from Samsung Mobile Taiwan’s Facebook page. As you can see from the picture, the software number is 2.3.3. It is not the recently announced 2.3.4 that brought video calling to Google Talk, but its the Gingerbread we have been waiting for.
Samsung failed to deliver the Gingerbread update Q1 of this year, but I for one can forgive them because there were no other Gingerbread devices on the market at the time other than the Nexus S of course. But now that there are dozens of devices either released or will be released soon that have Gingerbread on-board, Samsung has no excuse for not updating our Galaxy Tab from the Froyo it came with.

Galaxy Tab 8.9 Finally Caught on Video

It is a brief video at just over two minutes, but hey we will take anything we can get at this point. The UI seems smooth, even with TouchWiz UX integrated.
There is a fourth button on the bottom left in addition to the three default Honeycomb keys. It looks like a screen capture icon, or perhaps a shortcut to the camera application. I do not think that it will be in the full version of the software, but an interesting sight.

App of the Week – Pool Break Pro

Today’s App of the Week is… Google Docs. Just kidding. Oh man could you imagine. What a terrible excuse for an app Google put out last week. The real app is a little game called Pool Break.
Pool Break is a 3D game that really shows off the graphics power of the Samsung Galaxy Tab. With real-time lighting and shadows, the game comes to life.
You can either play online, against a computer, or switch off with a friend locally.
There are four different games – Pool, Snooker, Carrom and Crokinole. The last three are a mystery to me, but somebody must know what they are.
The game is available on the Android Market for $2.99, or you can download the free demo.
